Highly Skilled Worker Tier 1 (General) Visa UK


The Highly Skilled Worker Tier 1 (General) visa is designed to attract highly skilled workers to live and work in the UK. This visa category is suitable for qualified individuals who wish to seek employment, attend job interviews or establish a business in the UK. 


Applicants must be able to demonstrate they have the required English language ability, maintenance (funds) and a recognised qualification to be eligible to qualify. In addition, applicants must meet the minimum point's requirements on an assessment for attributes including age, previous earnings and any UK experience. 


Successful applicants will be granted temporary residence under the Tier 1 (General) visa category, which will permit them to live and work freely in the UK for an initial period of three (3) years. 


Tier 1 (General) Visa Basic Requirements


The UK Border Agency has set specific requirements that all applicants must meet in order to apply for a Work visa under the Tier 1 (General) category. 


To qualify for migration under the Tier 1 (General) category, you must be able to satisfy the basic visa requirements related to your age, English language ability, qualification, previous earnings, UK experience and available maintenance (funds). These attributes will be assessed in a points test and you must obtain at least 10 points for each of English language ability and maintenance (funds); and a minimum of 75 points for the other attributes. The point allocation is configured such that applicants must hold a recognised qualification to meet the minimum requirements. 


Tier 1 Post-Study Work Visa UK


The Tier 1 (Post Study Work) visa category replaces the International Graduates Scheme (IGS) and the Fresh Talent: Working in Scotland Scheme and is targeted at successful international graduates who have studied at recognised institutions in the United Kingdom. Designed to encourage them to remain in the UK following completion of their studies, the category provides a bridge to skilled or highly skilled work and enables visa holders to acquire sufficient UK experience or earnings to switch into another tier of the points-based system. Holders of Tier 1 (Post Study Work) visas are free to look for and take up employment without having a sponsor for the duration of their stay. 


Tier 1 Post-Study Work Visa Basic Requirements


The basic requirement for this visa is to score a minimum of 95 points for attributes including UK qualification, study at a United Kingdom institution, and immigration status during UK study and/or research, date of award of the qualification, English language and available maintenance (funds). 


Sponsored Worker (Tier 2 General) Visa UK


The Sponsored Worker (Tier 2 General) visa is for medium and highly skilled workers with a job offer in the United Kingdom to fill a position that could not be otherwise filled by a UK or EEA national. The Sponsored worker (Tier 2 General) visa allows UK companies to fill existing labour shortages.


Applicants who are granted temporary residence under the Sponsored worker (Tier 2 General) visa scheme are permitted to live and work in the UK for the duration of their employment for a maximum three (3) year period. 


Sponsored Worker (Tier 2 General) Visa Basic Requirements


The basic requirement for this visa is to score a minimum of 70 points for attributes including sponsorship, qualifications, prospective earnings, English language and available maintenance (funds). 


In the first instance, a prospective sponsor will apply to the UK Border Agency in order to be granted a licence. When successfully licensed, a sponsor can apply for a number of certificates of sponsorship, which they can then present to the people whom they intend to sponsor. Once a prospective employee has been allocated a certificate of sponsorship, he or she will be eligible to apply for UK entry clearance or leave to remain in the UK. 


Sponsored Worker (Tier 2 General) Visa Entitlements 


The Sponsored Worker (Tier 2 General) visa is issued for an initial maximum period of three (3) years. 


Upon successfully holding a Sponsored Worker (Tier 2 General) for a total of five (5) years, individuals may be entitled to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR). ILR entitles individuals to permanent residency in the UK, as well as visa-free travel to and from the UK. ILR holders may also be able to sponsor their non-British relatives into the UK and may also ultimately be eligible to apply for British citizenship. 


Eligible dependants may also qualify to be included and upon obtaining the visa, may also work or study without any restrictions. 


Sponsored Worker (Tier 2 Minister Of Religion) Visa UK

Spouse / Civil Partner Visa UK


The Spouse/Civil Partner visa is initially granted for a two (2) year probationary period and can lead to Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) and British nationality. 


If however, the couple have been married or have been in a civil partnership for at least four (4) years prior to lodgement of the application, an application for ILR can be made immediately. 


At the time of submitting the visa application, applicants for a Spouse/Civil Partner visa must demonstrate that they are legally married to, or in a Civil Partnership with a partner who is a UK National or permanent resident. This person must be their genuine spouse/partner and the couple must intend to live together in the UK .
